Please ignore the fact that I just uploaded these as screenshots that I took on my phone but these are some images that I found intriguing/inspirational for some ideas I have for my book cover.

Project #4: Book Cover :)

I chose "Alice in Wonderland" for my book cover project. I am very excited for this project...with so many variations already made for the book I feel like this is going to be challenging to bring something new and exciting/not already done to the table. Here is a summary of "Alice in Wonderland":
Alice the protagonist must find her way through this strange place called "Wonderland".She is a 7 year old girl who while sitting with her sisters falls asleep and enters this world by falling down a rabbit hole. She follows the White Rabbit who leads her on many adventures throughout the book
Lewis Carroll's book "Alice in Wonderland' is full of fanciful characters, each one adding a bit of humor and dimension to the story. When Alice falls down the rabbit hole she encounters various talking animals and an unusual Queen.Alice is the protagonist of the story,a little girl who goes on the adventure in Wonderland. The first character she meets is The White Rabbit, he reappears throughout the book and acts as Alice's guide, which is amusing because he doesn't seem to know even what time it is. There are lots of other characters in this book including an evil queen: the Queen of Hearts, cheshire cat, a caterpillar that smokes hookah, and the mad hatter.

And here are some variations of the book cover that I liked/found intriguing:

Progress on Event Poster Project

So my idea for this event poster is to make it colorful and playful,  a lot like several of You Me At Six's previous albums cover art was. They are a mostly upbeat band and I just love their use of color on some of the covers of previous albums. While using color, I am also wanting it to be simple and clean cut as well so I am going to basically use my own hand lettering for the band name and put it on top of the romantic numeral for 6 (VI), which will all go on top of the watercolorered image I did. I am still deciding whether I want to hand letter the details or find a font that works with my hand lettered band name/placement of said details. I am really loving my idea and how it's coming together so far. I do not have a high quality scanner so tomorrow in class I will be scanning in my lettering/watercolor image and I'll be putting things together!

You Me At Six - Room To Breathe

Design Game Strong: AHS

American Horror Story: Freakshow starts tonight and if you haven't planned on watching it, PENCIL IT IN! This season is going to be AMAZING. AHS has a really strong level of graphic design and here are some of their ads to show you some examples:

Project #3 is underway!

Our next project is to make an event poster for a band/artist/musical using our own art. We can hand draw our illustrative/typographic elements or use photoshop/illustrator to create a "new" branding per say for the chosen event.

I chose a band called You Me At Six; they are from the UK and they are amazing. They are within the rock genre (I don't really know the exact genre/sub-rock genre that they consider themselves.) I saw them last week at the Masquerade in the Hell part of the Venue. In my mood board I am showing their album covers, past/present tour posters, a picture of the hell venue, a picture I took last week, and a previous tour poster that was sponsored by Rockstar Energy drinks. I am going to use Rockstar as their sponsor for "my" event as well. They will be performing at The Tabernacle this time because I love The Tabernacle and I feel it is an appropriate atmosphere for them to play. It will be a co-headlining tour with the band All Time Low (like in the tour poster that they are actually having next Spring in the UK. I am going to place the event on my birthday, January 22, 2015, and it will start at 7pm ( typical concert starting time, right?). Tickets will be available through the Ticketmaster website and I will have links for both Ticketmaster and the band's social media sites.

Finished ads!

My company was Vans and their partnership with ASPCA. I chose to put the animal heads on the human bodies so I could express how when you buy from Vans (even if your not particularly buying the ASPCA shoes/accessories) you're supporting a company that also itself supports a good cause. This is my very first project working with Photoshop and while I have TONS left to learn and more than enough hours of practice ahead, I am overall happy with the outcome of this project. I was very worried when I first read over the project details but I surprised myself with what I was able to do. Working with the animal fur was hard and some edges are rougher than I'd like but I think it looks great and I hope everyone else does as well :)
